
Whitney Elizabeth Houston (Newark, New Jersey, August 9, 1963.) Is an American singer and actress. Related to several well-known singer, as her mother Cissy Houston, cousin Dionne Warwick and godmother Aretha Franklin, Houston began singing with eleven years in the children's gospel choir. Later, she began performing with her mother and other singers such as Lou Rawls, Chaka Khan, and Bill Laswell.

After briefly working as a model and actress, Whitney Houston 1985. published her first album, "Whitney Houston", which became the best-selling first album of a singer.Her second album, "Whitney" in 1987. became the first album of a singer who debuted at number one on Billboard album charts. Her success opened the door to success to other African-singers as well.
After her marriage to singer Bobby Brown, Houston appeared in her first leading role in the film The Bodyguard, where she starred alongside then mega-popular Kevin Costner. The soundtrack from the film won the Grammy Award for "Album of the Year" in 1994. and became the best selling soundtrack of all time.
The title track, "I Will Always Love You" is one of the best-selling singles in music history. Whitney also starred in "Waiting to Exhale" (1995). and "The Preacher's wife". (1996). After publishing her fourth studio album "My Love Is Your Love" (1998.) she renewed her contract with record label "Arista Records" for a record $100 million. Her fifth studio album, "Just Whitney", was released in 2002. She had a problematic marriage to Bobby Brown which ended in 2007.
Whitney Houston has sold over 140 million albums, and she is at the top of the list of world's best-selling musicians.
She had as many as 11 songs at number one on Billboard charts. She is also known as "The Voice" because of her "powerful pop-gospel vocal." Rolling Stone Magazine ranked her on the list of "100 greatest singers of all time." Many of the R&B and pop musicians cited her as their rolemodel.
